5d/4n iceland adventure

ABOUT THIS TRIP

From RM7,250 per pax

Iceland is a beautiful island surrounded by beautiful fjords along the coastline. Despite the name Iceland, only about 10% of Iceland is covered by glaciers. Iceland has a surprisingly mild climate where its coast remains ice free even during winter due to the warm North Atlantic Current.  Iceland experiences high geological activities with hundreds of volcanoes consisting of about 30 active volcanic systems. Hence, countless geothermal hotspots and geysers can be found in Iceland.

Iceland’s attraction includes the Blue Lagoon (the famous outdoor pool and health centre in Reykjavík), the Golden Falls (one of the most gorgeous waterfall in Iceland where river Hvítá plunges down a double cascade) and Jökulsárlón (the magnificent glacial lagoon where the ice breaks off all year round from the glacier, keeping the lagoon stocked with icebergs).   In the evening, there could be a chance to spot the magnificent Northern Lights. Skies are usually clear in Iceland when the weather is crisp and cold. This is when the Northern Lights will be at its most beautiful, dancing across the night sky in a spectacular display!

Detailed Itinerary

DAY 1

Assemble at airport for check in for departure to London. Overnite in London airport for departure to Iceland early morning on next day.

 DAY 2

Reykjavik – Golden Circle – Skogafoss

Embark on the famous Golden Circle Tour, where one can admire the natural wonders and historical sites along the southern part of the island.  First, stop at Gullfoss (Golden Falls) Waterfall, one of the most popular tourist destinations in Iceland. On a sunny day, you can see rainbows forming in the mist clouds from the falls.

Next, head to the Geysir Geothermal area with abundant hot springs and exploding Strokkur Geysir. The Strokkur is one of Iceland’s most famous fountain geyser, erupting once every 6-10 minutes.  Explore the Thingvellir National Park, the original site of the oldest existing parliament in the world. Stroll through part of the mid-Atlantic ridge, a rift that is slowly pulling Iceland apart along tectonic plates. Here, you can also find the largest natural lake in Iceland, Thingvallavatn.

Later in the day, we will proceed to visit the famous waterfall, Seljalandsfoss, which is 65m high and breathtakingly beautiful and you can walk behind the roaring cascade on a footpath  This is followed by a photo stop at one of the biggest waterfall in Iceland, Skogafoss Waterfall  with an astounding width of 25m and a drop of 60m.

DAY 3

Glacier

The second day is dedicated to the South Coast.  First, we visit Reynisdrangar, impressive rock formations situated near the shore of Reynisfjara beach,  the famous black sand beaches in the country that was ranked as one of the ten most beautiful non-tropical beaches in the world.  On the beach itself, it features an amazing cliff of regular basalt columns resembling a rocky step pyramid.  The sand on this shore is black because it was formed from heavily eroded volcanic rock.

Next, we drive to visit Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon.  The magnificent canyon is 100 meters (328 feet) deep and two kilometers (1.24 miles) long. The canyon is also a famous site in Justin Bieber’s song, I’ll Show You.

Next, visit Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon, where icebergs break down from the Vatnajökull glacier and float on the lake.  The icebergs would drift on the waters before floating back to the black sand of the Diamond Beach. It looks stunning as it sits on the soft black sand of the beach.

Overnight in Vik.

DAY 4

Vik – Reykjavik

Early morning, we first hike to the Sólheimasandur plane wreckage, Iceland’s most photogenic crashed plane site where a plane crashed in November 1973. The walk to the plane is across two miles of flat and fairly featureless desert, and will take you 40 minutes to 1 hour each way, depending on how fast you go on the conditions at the time you visit.

Next, proceed to visit Dyrholeay Cliffs, one of Iceland’s stunning vistas on the South Coast. Dyrhólaey’s most instantly recognisable attraction is the promenade’s massive rock arch, a result of centuries of erosion.  From position atop the promenade of Dyrhólaey, you can enjoy staggering views over Iceland’s black sand beaches.

We will spend in town of Reykjavik for the rest of the day.

DAY 5

Depart Reykjavik

Transfer to airport for flight back home with option to extend stay in London (at your own cost)
